Treatment Services

You will be asked to fill a consultation request form, and expect a brief phone call to discuss options and scheduling.

Treatment options are discussed as part of the consultation process after an initial assessment.  A wide range of treatment options are available depending on the needs of the prospective patient.

Sessions are 45 minutes in length.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy (talk therapy) is an approach with diverse methods to help clients with various problems.  Typically, once or twice weekly sessions are scheduled on a regular basis.  Couple and family therapy typically involve all members present.

Psychopharmacological treatment

Psychopharmacology refers to the scientific subdivision of use of psychotropics (medications that treat psychiatric conditions).  These medications can be helpful in managing difficult conditions, speed up recovery and increase benefits of psychotherapy.  However, there can be side effects to medications as well.  A detailed discussion of risks, benefits and alternatives of each medication is needed, either during the consultation or ongoing treatment.  Most of the time, medications are considered in addition to psychotherapy, however, there are situations in which medication-only treatment might be an option.

Child and Adolescent Treatment:

While psychotherapy and psychopharmacological treatment are typical options for children and adolescents, the approach is different than adults and requires subspecialty training.  Treatment options are discussed in detail with parents during the consultation process, and sometimes with the prospective patient.  The mode of psychotherapy for younger children involve age-appropriate toys and games in play.  Additionally, periodic parent meetings, or the addition of family therapy might be part of the treatment plan.

Psychoanalysis

Psychoanalysis is an in-depth and lengthy approach that may lead to lasting and fundamental changes for suitable cases. Typically, it is comprised of four-times weekly sessions and a minimum two-year commitment to therapy.  As a psychoanalytic candidate at New York Psychoanalytic Society and Institute, Dr. Büyükaşık is able to offer traditional or modified psychoanalysis under supervision with limited availability.  A thorough consultation process is required prior to determining psychoanalytic suitability.
