Can Büyükaşık, M.D.

Dr. Büyükaşık is a child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist with medical license to practice in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.  He is board-certified in adult psychiatry as well as in his subspecialty of child and adolescent psychiatry.  

After graduating with honors from Hacettepe University, School of Medicine in Ankara, Türkiye, Dr. Büyükaşık worked as a family physician before completing his general psychiatry training at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai - Elmhurst Hospital Program and his child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, where he completed concentrations in autism research and parent-infant psychotherapyDr. Büyükaşık worked as an adolescent psychiatrist at Northwell Health Zucker Hillside Hospital where he taught and supervised residents, fellows and medical students and treated complex mental health issues in an inpatient setting.

Dr. Büyükaşık is interested in applying the most effective and useful treatment methods both for general and specialty populations.  In addition to his extensive experience in psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) with adults and youth, and in play therapy for young children, Dr. Büyükaşık received training in dialectical-behavior therapy (DBT), mentalization-based treatment (MBT), child-parent psychotherapy (CPP), parent management training (PMT) and family therapy.  Additionally, Dr. Büyükaşık has comprehensive experience in the psychopharmacological management of complex and treatment-resistant conditions.

Dr. Büyükaşık is an assistant professor of psychiatry at Donald & Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell and he is affiliated with Zucker Hillside Hospital and South Oaks Hospital School-based Mental Health Program.  In addition to extensive psychiatric training and experience, Dr. Büyükaşık is a psychoanalytic candidate at the New York Psychoanalytic Society & Institute. 

Dr. Büyükaşık is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc., a member Board of the American Board of Medical Specialties.
